She is a motivational speaker and has been the keynote speaker both in law enforcement and the business world. Companies such as Cal Trans, Federal Express, UPS, UC Davis Medical Center, and many more have used her encouragement, expertise with humor during these difficult economical times to manage stress and deal in grief & loss issues.
The Law Enforcement Chaplaincy-Sacramento chaplains have received numerous awards for their expertise as crisis intervention specialists for schools, corporations, and neighborhoods. In April 2002, Chaplain Mindi Russell received the National Crime Victim Service Award from President George W. Bush and Attorney General John Ashcroft. This prestigious award is the highest federal honor for victim advocacy given by serving at Ground Zero on Sept 11, 2001. The International Conference of Police Chaplains is a professional organization that challenges its members to excellence in their ministry. The ICPC Executive Committee established the John A. Price Awards in January, 1984, to recognize chaplains doing an outstanding job in their own departments. On July 15, 2010, Chaplain Mindi Russell received the John A. Price Award.
Her personal life is no less interesting. Her beloved husband of 39 years, Chaplain Frank, were high school sweethearts. While working together in this crisis ministry, they have become mentors to many young officer couples who desired to have a long happy marriage. They have two children and two granddaughters. Jeremy (son) & Aria Rose (granddaughter), age 6 and Chaplain Angela (daughter), husband John, and Alexandra Yvonne (granddaughter), age 2. They own a English Bulldog named, Choppers. They all live locally and get together a minimum of once a week to regroup and keep priorities straight. Her sister and mother are chaplains for the Redding Police Department as well. “Life is good and God is great” says Chaplain Mindi, “no matter what”.
